Crewe Teacher Nominated for Teacher of the Year

A teacher from Crewe has been nominated for Collection Pot’s Teacher of The Year competition after transforming one of his student’s school life
 
 

Mr Wildgoose, who teaches at Monks Coppenhall Academy, was nominated by Year 4 student Adam and his mum Cheryl Moulton. Adam has autism and has struggled with school in previous years. But, after joining Mr Wildgoose’s class this year, his entire perspective has changed.  

“Year 3 was a terrible year, Adam was having meltdowns and he was getting taken out of the class. I was being called into the school every other day.” Cheryl said. 

“This year there has been none of that. From day one, Mr Wildgoose has been approachable. He bends down and gets on their level when he talks to the kids.” 

Since joining Mr Wildgoose’s class, Adam’s confidence has come on leaps and bounds. 

“He puts his hand up to answer questions which he wouldn’t dare do that before. Mr Wildgoose has given Adam a little bit of independence, giving him small jobs that he knows he can handle.” 

One particular moment which sticks out in Cheryl’s mind is the residential trip that Mr Wildgoose took the whole of Year 4 on. 

“There were three SEN children on the trip and Mr Wildgoose stayed in the room next door to them in case they needed anything during the night. When I asked Adam how it made him feel he said: “It made me feel safe” which I think says it all.” Cheryl said. 

Collection Pot’s Teacher of The Year competition 2025 aims to celebrate the exceptional dedication of teachers, teaching assistants, support staff, and headteachers in schools across the nation. 

Nominations are open until June 22nd and the winner will be announced on July 4th.
